Bert Newton

I just can’t imagine this magnificent state without the name – Bert Newton.

Like the MCG, Flinders Street station and this Town Hall ….. it seems to me that Bert has always been here.

Bert’s show-business career is legendary …. his early years in radio at 3XY in Spring Street, almost opposite Parliament House.

His start in the then new entertainment medium, television, first with the Seven network, then for many years at Nine, then Network Ten, and more recently back to Nine.

Incidentally, Bert is one of only two or three people who has had his own show on all four TV networks.

Along this remarkable journey Bert was also critically acclaimed for his stage performances in shows such as The Sound Of Music, Beauty and the Beast and The Producers.
And, he starred in a movie along the way too.

Behind the scenes, Bert has been just as spectacular, but not as public.

Many of his acts of kindness have been the exact opposite to his public persona – they have been executed very privately, but the recipients are fully aware of his generosity.

Bert’s charity interests include the Gawler Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation, the Bone Marrow Donor Institute, Guide Dogs Victoria and World Vision Australia.
